VB NSW Cup launched in style with Fox Sports

A who’s who of Rugby League today learned VB NSW Cup fans will be able to watch a live match nationally on Fox Sports every week as part of a new television rights deal which will encompass 2013 to 2017.

The live match, which will kick-off Fox Sports’ Super Saturday, will be shown at 1.10pm or 3.10pm from venues across NSW and will run throughout the VB NSW Cup season and Final Series.

The Grand Final will again be shown live on Channel 9 as part of the NRL’s showcase event at ANZ Stadium on Sunday, 6 October.

“Plenty of work has gone on behind the scenes to secure this deal and I would like to thank everyone, especially Fox Sports, for their support,” NSWRL General Manager, Geoff Carr, said.
“Live coverage every week for the VB NSW Cup has been a major goal for the Board and the VB NSW Cup Management Committee and it shows the competition is again being recognised as a strong development pathway.

“Players like Josh Reynolds have come straight out of the VB NSW Cup, made a name for themselves in the Telstra Premiership and, in Josh’s case, are now pushing for State of Origin selection.

“The support around the competition has been tremendous and that was highlighted by massive crowds at Leichhardt Oval for our Final Series. With increased coverage thanks to Fox Sports, we are excited about seeing that support increase next year.”

The competition will begin on Saturday, 9 March with the first televised game at Parramatta Stadium between Parramatta’s and Canberra’s feeder sides, Wentworthville and Mounties.

At 3pm the Auckland Vulcans travel to Brookvale to take on Manly, Canterbury-Bankstown host North Sydney, and last year’s premiers Newtown head down to WIN Stadium in Wollongong to play the Cutters.
Meanwhile, at Toyota Stadium on Sunday, Sharks fans will be treated to three grades on one day as the Sharks VB NSW Cup team takes to the field against the newly formed Wests Tigers side.

Finally, at 3pm in Wyong, Coach Paul Stringer and Assistant Coach Matt Orford will steer competition newcomers, the Wyong Roos, in their first local derby with the Newcastle Knights at Morrie Breen Oval.

The Western Suburbs Magpies should be playing in the NSW Cup. Thanks Mike Bailey, Wests Ashield and Mick Luibinskas for doing all you could to make it impossible for the magpies to be there. Instead the club is playing in a competition it should never be playing in!
