Some of rugby league’s greatest names were at Allianz Stadium today
to launch the Wests Tigers versus South Sydney Round 5 Heritage Match.
Western
Suburbs Magpies legends Tommy Raudonikis, Bob Cooper and Andrew Leeds
were joined by Souths greats John Sattler, Bob McCarthy, George Piggins
and Eric Simms for a lively panel debate about the battles of yesteryear
between the two clubs.
Rugby league media identity Graeme Hughes from 2SM Talkin Sport hosted the event.
The
Round 5 Heritage Round match between Wests Tigers and South Sydney
Rabbitohs will be played at Allianz Stadium on Sunday, April 1, at 3pm.
The teams will be playing for the inaugural Men of League Cup with officials expecting a crowd of more than 30,000 for the game.
The theme of the match is the 60 year anniversary of the 1952 Grand
Final between Western Suburbs Magpies and South Sydney. It was the last
first grade premiership won by the Magpies.
Wests Tigers will wear the Magpies heritage jersey for the match.
As
part of the day’s festivities, the annual Wests Magpies Reunion will be
held in the SCG Members Bar before the former players do a lap of
honour at the SFS prior to the NRL game.
Wests Tigers have also
come up with a special $10 ticket offer exclusively for former grade
players from any clubs in the NSWRL, ARL, Super League and NRL eras.
A Dance Spectacular, featuring more than 650 kids, will be performed at half-time of the NRL game.
