The New South Wales Rugby League has tonight paid homage to its
best and fairest from the grassroots all the way through to State of
Origin on a night of celebration at the 2013 Brad Fittler Medal held at
Le Montage in Lilyfield.
Gold Coast Titans Lock Greg Bird took out the most prestigious award of the evening, winning the Brad Fittler Medal as the NSW VB Blues Best and Fairest for 2013.
Wyong Roos Captain Mitch Williams capped off a season to remember by claiming the VB NSW Cup Player of the Year, in what was the Roos inaugural season in the second-tier competition. Williams was also Captain of the VB NSW Cup Representative Team that defeated Queensland 22-18 in the curtain raiser for State of Origin 3 at ANZ Stadium.
Western Suburbs Prop Dean Rysko took out the Ron Massey Cup Player of the Year award and James Mortimer of the Belrose Eagles claimed the True Blue Chemicals Sydney Shield Player of the Year award.
NSWRL Chief Executive David Trodden believes the Brad Fittler Medal is a great way of honouring the contributions of everyone involved in Rugby League throughout the entire state of New South Wales.
“On behalf of the NSWRL Board I would like to congratulate Greg Bird on claiming this distinguished award tonight,” Trodden said.
“While the Brad Fittler Medal is about recognising achievements at a State of Origin level, tonight was also about acknowledging all of those people from the grassroots level of the sport right through to the pinnacle of the game in this state.
“Nights like tonight don’t come about without the great support from our sponsorship family, competing clubs and stakeholders as well as our hardworking staff.”
